According to Wikipedia, wheelhouse is slang for your sweet spot...

As in, "that's in my wheelhouse."

If Wikipedia's right, I can see why people are going crazy over the Wheelhouse Cab because it is definitely in my sweet spot!

The '07 Wheelhouse Cabernet is a classic California Cab: Big fruit, big tannins, big mouthfeel. Most of the grapes are sourced from valley vineyards throughout Napa. The valley fruit brings a lush, juicy feel to the Wheelhouse. The wine is big, but balanced and elegant with a touch of Merlot to offset the hearty tannins - new French oak adds some creamy vanilla to the currant and black cherry.

According to Robert Parker's vintage chart, the 2007 vintage from Napa Valley AVA is considered to be 96 points across the board. A rating of 96 points is considered "Extraordinary" by the Wine Advocate.

I don't usually rate with points, but I'd give this wine 90+ points based upon QPR (Quality - Price Ratio).   C'mon, $13 for a 2007 NAPA CABERNET?? No brainer!  Grab it while you can.

Last glass...

Enjoyed a glass of '07 AP Vin Pinot Noir from the Clos Pepe Vineyard. Must say that I loved it!

California Pinot Noir can be light and fruity, or rock-em, sock-em big boys that can play on the same team as a cab lover. This one is the latter.

What I liked most about this wine was its balance and elegance. It has the up-front dried berry/cherry fruit that you want your Pinot Noir to have, followed by a dash of lively acidity and earth that segues into a spicy, silky, tantalizing finish.

Tasted this at Cru Allen ~ Watter's Creek, about 550 cases made - so not a lot of it out there, and probably only available on-premise.

Remember how the cherry tootsie-pop was all fruity and yet you could still smell and taste the chocolate hidden in the center of the tootsie-pop? If you were like me, you crunched right through that cherry candy to get to the chocolate and were rewarded with the combination of cherry, chocolate bliss!

When you sip your Trentadue Chocolate Amore` visions of Tootsie-Pops will dance in your head ~ I promise! $22.99 p/bottle

WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

We produce this opulent dessert wine from Merlot grapes grown on our Geyserville Ranch. Borrowing from the traditions of port making, we add neutral grape spirits to stop fermentation trapping a percentage of sugar in the wine. Once Chocolate Amore is finished aging and is ready for bottling, we infuse a tiny amount of natural chocolate extract to the final blend, creating the perfect marriage of food and wine. This Merlot-based, port-styled chocolate flavored dessert wine is great as a stand-alone dessert, or over vanilla ice cream or dark, decadent brownies.
